Wednesday 5th May, Malkins Bank

Started off at 7.05am in mist to try for the best weather; two locks done and at the next, there is a boat approaching from the opposite direction. Good, a good road for a while at least. Passing Rode Heath, only two moored boats – it really is quiet as only three boats passed in the opposite direction yesterday. By now, the mist had given way to fine, very wet, rain. We stopped at Hassal Green for a breakfast at Lock 57 Brasserie; it was as good as it was our last visit and helped to cheer and warm us up. Having eaten, we moved off with a fine drizzle for company. No boats had come towards us, and we knew that one had gone North as we had breakfast, so a bad road for the rest of the journey to the bottom of Malkins Bank, but only six locks.
It was raining as we tied up, we have done enough for today. Three boats in the opposite direction, two in front; where are they all?
