Promises, promises

MONDAY. A very short boating day in store, only to Mirfield for some food, and on to Ledgard Bridge boats. Myra went off to the shops and I was doing a few things around the boat, when a plastic boat came through the flood lock. It was ‘Miss D Mina’ with Pauline and Duncan Sawyer. We met them last year when we shared locks up the Marsworth flight. They stopped and we chatted for about an hour after Myra returned. They had come from Manchester through the Standedge tunnel. They had good value from BW, as theirs was the only boat through the tunnel that day. The tug and module came empty from Marsden, turned round and then took them back to Diggle. They are heading for Ripon. We bade them a safe journey and farewell, before Myra went to the chippy for our lunch. We moved up to Ledgard Bridge boats, waiting all afternoon for the batteries, which did not arrive. So much for Elecsol’s promise of delivery today. I will be making a plasticine model of the factory and sticking pins in it. With an attitude such as theirs to their customers, they do not deserve to stay in business. I will not mention their name again. It has just started to rain, we have been promised about an inch or so overnight, we are secured to a widebeam barge, so we will not need to slacken off the ropes. If the rain stops early enough tomorrow, we plan to use the bus passes to visit Wakefield.

The 2008 journey thus far: 182 Locks & 296.5 Miles & 19 Swing\Lift Bridges
