No room up top !

WEDNESDAY. No boating today; it is a Bus Pass day. Firstly, the bus from Woodlesford to Leeds; then into the Bus station for the Coastliner service to Scarborough. We sat upstairs for a good view; upstairs was full of oldies using bus passes. The route took us through Tadcaster, York and Malton.
The countryside was lovely, almost as beautiful as Derbyshire, but not quite. We arrived in Scarborough at 1.40, a little late. My knees were complaining that three hours with limited movement was taking liberties with them. To appease them, we walked towards the front, had some tea in the tearooms above the funicular railway. Feeling refreshed, we paid our 60 pence each and descended to the sea front. We walked along to the harbour and on looking upward, decided to climb to Scarborough Castle. The energy used in the climb was well rewarded; both the castle and the views of South and North bays were very good (ditto the slice of cake obtained from the tearoom).
Had we paid, the return bus fare was £11 each. We thought that would have been good value. Certainly it was compared to the train, which was £20.36 single!
We left Scarborough on the 7pm bus and on the journey we were treated to some beautiful weather effects. Rainbows as we left, then sunrays below impressive rain clouds in the far distance.
Arriving in Leeds at 9.30 pm, too late for the bus to Woodlesford, we walked to the Railway station. We were pleasantly surprised by the train fare - £1.45 single! The journey took a mere 9 minutes; we were back on Martlet and had the gas lit under the kettle by 10.30pm.
A long, but very enjoyable day. Some Scarborough pictures will follow tomorrow.
