A shorter day..............

I used to wonder why Ants were placed on this Earth. Since travelling the canals, I have the same thoughts about Canada Geese. We were awoken at 4.20am by a flock of the b*****s. I am not sure how many are required to form a gaggle. There were 5 of them, and they moved away rapidly soon afterwards. The second awakening was a bit more civilised and induced Myra to make a pot of tea - wonderful!
I was given the list of requirements for today, use the spin drier, visit the butcher in Nether Heyford and make a loaf of bread. This information enables me to work out our stopping place and travelling time, to allow the inverter use and charging of batteries. Arriving on foot in Nether Heyford, we were pleased to see that the butcher was still in business; the bakers next door had closed since our last visit.
The mini market opposite produced some potatoes and a jar of jam and we walked back to Martlet. Close to Furnace Wharf, I spotted a rare conifer, a recent introduction to this country which seems to be doing quite well.
We tied up at Br44 opposite a field of young horses,it was fascinating watching them playing around. We had been moored for about 30 minutes, when the Stoke Bruerne coal boat approached from the south. We hailed them and purchased 3 bags of Taybrite, which lightened both their load and my wallet.
