PINCH,PUNCH,FIRST OF THE MONTH

Frampton on Severn, Gloucester & Sharpness canal, Saturday 1st August

Hello August, thank you for the welcoming rain. We are now looking forward to an Indian summer – the eternal optimists, that’s us!
I wonder where all of the boats have gone, there are very few moving and even at Saul Junction which is home to a near 300 boat marina, not even one.
We have moored below Fretherne bridge on the opposite bank to Frampton village, a good view across the Severn in between the showers.
A tug from Rotterdam pushing a high pressure water jet dredger headed past us in the Sharpness direction, it has been working in the dock area at Gloucester.
The BW man that we spoke to could not see how the system can work better than a bucket dredger. I share his view and we both concluded that the cost of maintaining a dredger in house could be the reason for outside contractors doing the job, never mind the end result.

2009 Totals: 420 Locks – 742.5 miles – 20 Bus pass uses.
