Aquueducts and Concertinas

FRIDAY. At River Bollin Aqueduct, Bridgewater Canal
The 2008 trip thus far: 305 Locks; 550.5 Miles; 56 Swing\Lift Bridges. Bus pass journeys 20

A few spots of drizzle welcomed me as we moved off, Paul and Heather got away dry some 30 minutes earlier. We were stopping in Lymm to see what pork pies were available. In the end, we were not impressed by the pork pies and so had a pasty and a steak one instead.

The wind was blustery, and quite strong away from any sheltering trees as we passed the miles of linear moorings, a little faster than normal owing to the cross wind.

We saw a classic notice from Bridgewater Canal company:
48hr Transit mooring. No return within 3 days. No Mooring.
Some of the other signs had arrows indicating the extent of the limit, not this one!

We moored up just before the Bollin aqueduct and I wandered off for a closer look.
The large scale stonework supporting wall was on a curve, with no signs of any seepage.

Later, walking on the towpath, we stopped to chat to a lady on her boat.
She was a Duet concertina player; Lesley, as we now know her, joined us after dinner bringing two of her concertinas. We had a wonderful evening of music and of course chatting. Myra has yet another friend to play and talk concertinas.

Weather – Showers, gusty breeze, few sunny periods.
